Northwest Regional Organizer, Southern Utah Wilderness Alliance
Indian Creek, near Moab, UT
September 25-28

Brooke Williams, the Northwest Regional Organizer of the Southern Utah Wilderness Alliance, arrived in our Indian Creek camp accompanied by his recently acquired sidekick Winslow Homer; a diminutive tiger striped Chihuahua. Brooke introduced the Westies to SUWA’s goals for the canyon lands region in order to give us a foundation from which to produce multi media projects exploring varying stakeholder perspectives in the region. SUWA’s main goal is to protect what remains of Utah’s wild lands from off road vehicles as well as oil and gas developments. SUWA has worked to determine the exact boundaries of pre-existing wilderness areas and is fighting to expand those areas. As the population of earth continues to grow SUWA hopes to defend wild places to provide a silent escape from the chaos of modern life.
