Barry Baker, a representative of The Nature Conservancy (TNC), has been with the Canyonlands Research Center since its creation in 2009. A collaboration of TNC, Indian Creek Cattle Company, the Bureau of Land Management, the Park Service, USGS and Utah State University, the Center performs research on climate change with regards to the region’s grasslands. Some examples of the Center’s projects are the relationship of temperature and herbaceous cover on the land, dust-on-snow effect to rangeland ecosystems, and monitoring the region’s precipitation and drought relation. Taking pride in these scientific endeavors, Barry speaks about the projects with a satisfaction that the Center hosts such a variety of experiments, helping to explain climate change in Southern Utah.
