Matt King, Renewable Program Coordinator of Wallowa Resources’ Community Solutions, Inc. works with the Wallowa County community with a mission to revitalize the job market and energy consumption through the use of renewable energy. Matt showed the Semester in the West crew around the county, highlighting biomass and hydropower projects pursued by the local community in conjunction with Wallowa Resources, such as a microhydro turbine offsetting a local landowner’s energy needs. Ultimately, Matt would like to see Wallowa County, which has a population of 7,000, off the energy grid. After spending a day with him, we think it’s only a matter of time. Matt excites us because he graduated from a liberal arts school with a biology degree and has been able to bring resource innovation to the county on a local level.
