Doug McDaniel is a lifelong resident of Wallowa County. His respect for the restorative power of nature is evident in the transformation he initiated along a section of the Wallowa River running through his property. He recreated meanders in a previously straightened portion of the river, converting a barren gravel bar to a lush riparian ecosystem. Frustrated with the practical impediments of bureaucracy, he asks that we leave space in regulations for trust in the creativity of individual landowners and that we remember the power of working with our hands.
